Why do my items not sell on the Diablo 3
gold auction house? I’ve promised you guys the next section of my Monk
playthrough (see the last part here) and it’s on the way! However I’ve been
busy with some Diablo 3 related side projects and also, I’ve never made a video
22 minutes long before (with a smattering of commentary). The time to complete
the editing process seems to increase exponentially.
But while I’m at work, and on lunch I got
to thinking… Over the open beta weekend, the market stepped up a gear. Things
moved very fast. Prices leapt up and down. In this environment you might end up
rushing; working at a speed near your limit; losing the cool that is essential
to long term success.
Wait a minute no one is going to buy these dye
removers... I'll buy them out
When you are at your limits like this in
any endeavour you are more likely to make a few mistakes. Here are a few
examples (I made 1 myself at the weekend, see if you can guess which ):
Posting an item with a buyout price that is
much lower than the market value (and not realising before the 5 minute RMAH
grace period passes)
Posting an item with a buyout price that is
much higher than the market value (and not realising before the 5 minute RMAH
grace period passes)
Posting 10 so-so items in one auction house
and realising you have 3 scorchers that will sell faster and for more (and not
realising before the 5 minute RMAH grace period passes)
As I’ve noted above, you’d need to make a
mistake and also miss out on the 5 minute window the RMAH gives you to correct
mistakes. If you make these mistakes with a stack of commodities you won’t even
have that 5 minute grace period.
But all is not lost. In a topic I’ve
covered before I talked about buying from yourself. In the scenarios I describe
above you might want to consider doing this. It might be tough to find, say,
commodities. It might be hard to buy items that are very underpriced (before
others do). But, depending on the scale of your mistake (measure scale in
potential profit loss) it’s definitely a technique worth trying.
Personally, I think the most powerful
application of this technique (and it’s a problem you’ll nearly always be able
to rectify) is when you reach your auction house limit of 10 with ‘meh’ items.
You thought it was a good idea to put those items with average stats up at a
lowish price but after a day you realise they’re not going to sell. They’re
just too average.
Diablo 3 has an Auction House in it, which
can be a useful way to make. Why wait another 24 hours for the auctions to
expire? Hunt them down and buy them out. Take a 15% hit. Salvage those average
items and fill the free slots with the better selling items (like “Lucky
Shoulders of the Hawk” say) at a better price.
